Ethiopian Environmental Scientist on UN Climate Change Report

The VOA Amharic program's Fregenet Asseged talked to environmental scientist Getachew Assefa, who comments on the significance of the new report released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The report, released at a conference of experts in Paris, was reviewed by 25-hundred scientists from 113 countries. The scientists say they are more than 90 percent certain that man-made pollutants are causing the Earth to experience rising sea levels, erratic weather and increases in temperature in this century.

Dr. Getachew, a researcher and instructor in the Department of Industrial Ecology at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, pointed out that the contribution of rich and poor countries to global warming and discussed how each of them can address the problem.

Dr. Getachew believes that African countries, such as Ethiopia, have the advantage of using bio fuel and suggested that they accordingly work it in their development plans.
