The VOA Amharic program's Fregenet Asseged talked to Dr. Dawit Zerihun, recipient of the 2007 Best Paper Award for an article published in the Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering from the Environmental and Water Resources Institute, EWRI, of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
His paper focused on coupled surface and subsurface fertilizer and salt transport in irrigations and basins. Zerihun is an Assistant Research Scientist in Irrigation and Environmental Engineering at the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona. His research areas encompass modeling of irrigation water flow, fertilizer and salt transport processes, design and management of irrigation and fertilizer application systems.
He is also responsible for developing best management practices for irrigation and water resource systems aimed mainly at efficient utilization of soil, water, and related resources in the desert of the Southwestern U.S. Dr. Dawit Zerihun obtained his B.S. in Agricultural Engineering from the Alemaya College of Agriculture, Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Irrigation Engineering respectively, from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.
