A new collection of short stories, Masqa, which means "paying the price" in Tigrigna, has recently been published in Ethiopia. The author is Girmay Gebru, a freelance reporter for VOA in Mekele, who says he he wrote the book because he wanted to play a practical role in advancing Tigrigna literature.
In an interview for the VOA Tigrigna program, Girmay says his mother brought "almost forgotten words of Tigrigna to life," for him. Similarly, he hopes his book will inspire young writers. He told VOA's Tewelde Weldeghebriel that one of the 16 short stories in the collection portrays the love and reconciliation he wishes to see among the peoples of Ethiopia and Eritrea.
