Africa’s Hopes for Copenhagen

Advocates from many African nations are seeking solutions to their economic and environmental crises at the 15th annual U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In addition to delegates lead by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia, a handful of environmental journalists flew from Addis to Copenhagen to report on the high expectations of developing countries demanding that the industrialized countries give them remedies to drought, flooding, pollution and the continuing crises of unemployment, disease and failed economics.

Tewodros Negash and Aregaw Ashine have been reporting from Copenhagen since 7 Dec. 2009.

VOA Amharic service's Alula Kebede invited the two reporters and the service's Nature and Environment program producer Solomon Abate to the Horn of Africa roundtable discussion on the realities of this crucial world gathering. Click on the link on the side to listen to the discussion.
