Terry Hathaway, Director of the Africa Program told VOA’s Solomon Abate from her office in Yaoundé, Cameroon, that the third dam under construction on the Omo River is one of the biggest in Africa and in her more than 20 years working for International Rivers she says it is one of the most dangerous projects socially, economically and environmentally.Hathaway also said that no assessment has been done to verify that the technical and financial aspects of the project have been properly reviewed.

She said the project should be halted immediately. The construction of a fourth dam further downstream on the Omo has recently been announced.
