A former Addis Ababa University student recently published a book of poems, “Innoo,” that he wrote while in prison in Addis and completed while a political refuge in Kampala.
Birhanu Gammachu told Nigusu Negawo of the Afan Oromo Service that most of his poems were inspired by good and bad experiences he encountered in life.
He was jailed with other Oromo students in 2005 and was released two years ago. He then left Ethiopia and settled in Uganda. Some of his poems were also written when he was a high school student in Oromiya, and the rest were written after his release.
