Sixty seven orphaned children in Tigrai receive financial support from Danish society.
The children grow under the
association called Human beings Association of Brotherhood based in Mekelle,
Tigrai.
Fikre Assefa director of the
association told VOA “Our association is providing full care to HIV/AIDS
orphaned children within family, reunifying children of the street with their
nearest of kin, community based educational support, and prevention girls from
joining prostitution.”
The association supports 2600
children in Mekelle and Alamata who are victims of HIV/AIDS, violence and social
crisis.
The association receives
donation from UNICEF, CRDA, HIV/AIDS prevention and control office of Tigrai
and especial support Danish society to sixty seven orphaned children in Ayder,
Mekelle.
Abraham Alemayoh, a member of
the Danish community, in an interview with VOA expressed that some 300 people
in Denmark have established an association to support Ethiopian Children.
“We are sending 65,000 Kroner
yearly to support the orphaned children in Tigrai. And we have already
ascertained in person that our support is practically on the children” Said
Abraham.
Tigisty Tkiea, 12, told VOA
“we have what we need in this orphanage center and thanks to the Danish society
for visiting us.”
The association is working to generate its own income from agriculture and dairy cows.
It was founded in May, 2001.
