A Norwegian woman working with women’s associations in Tigrai for the past 10 months told VOA that the associations she has been working with have an opportunity to empower themselves by providing skill programs to the women and gives loans to start their own businesses. She praised the groups she hasd been working with. “The women’s association of Tigrai has done very good work in amending laws such as early marriage in family law of Tigrai and the law on rights of land for women.”
Anita Land is part of the exchange funded by the Norwegian government and has been working in the women’s association of Tigrai on public relations. She said that the Women’s association in Tigrai is very clever doing in grass root work, but they are not clever in telling the world about what they are doing.
Land is in Tigrai on an exchange program. Shemsia Mohamed is now back home after one year stay in Oslo, Norway in the exchange program. “There is no discrimination between the employer and employee in Norway and no one can get special privileges from his/her organization, unlike Ethiopia,” said Shemsia.
