Girma Yifrashewa has studied performance and composition in Addis Ababa, the State Conservatory of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria and pursued a successful career as a concert pianist in Europe.
He won scholarships from the British and German governments to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Felix-Mendelson-Bartholdy University for Music and Theater in Leipzig in 1999. His passion for the piano has been influenced predominately by Schumann, Schubert and Debussy.
His works include “The Shepherd with the Flute”, based on the composition of the late Ethiopian composer and musical scholar Professor Ashenafi Kebede. He has also recorded three CDs: “The Shepherd with the Flute” (2001), “Me leya Keleme” (2003) and “Elilta” (2006).
