Ethiopian artist Eskender Seyoum was a guest of VOA Amharic’s Mestawot Program. Eskender who resides in Atlanta, Georgia had an art exhibit at Georgia Perimeter College. His works include oil and acrylic painting, watercolor, pen and ink, traditional and contemporary arts.
Eskender was born and grew up in Dessie before attending Addis Ababa University School of Fine Arts and Design. His art teacher encouraged him to persue art studies after noticing his talents.
His childhood life in rural Ethiopia has had a huge inspiration on his works. Before coming to the United States on a Diversity Visa Lottery, Eskender and his fellow artist and friend Asnake Kifle had shown several art exhibitions in Addis Ababa.
Recently they have teamed up with their former teacher Eshetu Tiruneh to open a new private art school in Addis Ababa. Eskender believes that their school, Enlightenment Art Academy, will widen the limited opportunity for people to persue art studies.
Mestawot hosts Fregenet Asseged and Konjit Taye talked to artist Eskender Seyoum.
