Ethiopian police have arrested 34 supporters and members of the opposition on weapons charges.
The state-run news agency says the detainees from the main opposition Coalition for Unity and Democracy were taken into custody in the southern Oromo region. Police say the opposition members were caught with a large cache of weapons, including rifles, hand grenades and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
The news agency says the arrests came after police received a tip that the detainees were planning violence.
Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has accused opposition groups of plotting to overthrow the government by force and rounded up several politicians and supporters.
Tensions have been high in Ethiopia ever since electoral officials declared the ruling party the winner of disputed parliamentary elections held in May.
