Former US President Jimmy Carter is in Ethiopia to promote initiatives to combat diseases like trachoma.
Carter Center spokeswoman Emily Staub said Mr. Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, wants national and local leaders to make health care a higher priority.
The Carter Center has worked with Ethiopian authorities to treat and prevent trachoma, a bacterial infection that causes blindness.
They will tour Carter Center-sponsored projects near Bahir Dar during their visit.
