The U.S. State Department yesterday released a statement accusing the Eritrean government of fomenting violence in Somalia. The release said Eritrea was “fanning the flames of violence in Somalia.” Eritrea has been instrumental in facilitating support of the extremists to commit these attacks,” a spokesman was quoted as saying in the release. “This support must cease immediately.” The release said Eritrea’s support for anti-government forces in Somalia is a serious obstacle to the possibility of a more normal relationship with the United States.
