Feruz Gebremeskel possesses an unusual combination of interests and professions. She is both a singer and a lawyer. By day she is a public prosecutor in Eritrea. She is also a rising music star and quickly becoming one of Eritrea's favorite music celebrities.
"Law is my profession and music is my hobby," says Feruz. Some call her Judge Feruz because she briefly served as a a judge in the Eritrean court system. She is currently living in the U.S. attending graduate school.
In her music career, Feruz sings traditional and Eritrean music. She recently appeared on the VOA Tigrigna program Kaleidoscope where she shared some of her songs and talked with host Tewelde Weldegebriel about the challenges of juggling two disparate professions.
